chapter synopsis/scans: chapter five [jun '03]
あなたのために僕は
( Anata no tame ni boku wa - For your sake, I... )

The first panel shows an apartment building in the not-so-pretty side of New York. Alison, Akagawa and Aya are apparently discussing mission plans, as Blue Eyes is demanding a ransom for Chris, with the fixed location being within Blue Eyes' territory. The scene then cuts to Aya talking to a group of kids about Blue Eyes and Orphan, while it snows outside. Meanwhile, Akagawa and Alison discuss Aya, the conversation ending with Akagawa swearing to protect Alison.

Two days after the scheduled date, one of the Orphan kids hurries to meet Alison. Another child is injured, and it's not the first occurence since the 'invitation card'. They decide to finally move out and rescue Chris, that night.

We see them looking over a map of New York before heading out. As Alison calls to two other members ( Doug [Dagu] and Marty [Maatei]? o_0 ), Yuki says that he wants to go along as well - Chris was one of the members with him when they were stealing the cash. ( See chapter three. ) Chris also mentioned, then, that even though that area was Blue Eyes' territory, there were people who supported them. Akagawa agrees to let Yuki go, to Alison's surprise, and hands Yuki his kau sin ke. Aya wishes to go too, but Akagawa says it'll be fine without him, and Aya watches as the five Orphan members head out.

Later that night, Aya rests seated on his bed, his wound still hurting. Cue the arrival of an eccentric doctor - Doctor D, dreadlocked and with a strangely-shaped monocle. He examines Aya's wounds, but is interrupted by one of the kids, who has a katana from Akagawa's collection to show "Aya-niichan".

Aya is unsheathing the sword when Yuki bursts into the room, calling his name. Bloodstained and bleeding from one eye as well as a head wound, Yuki gasps "Alison is...Alison is-!!" before collapsing into Aya's arms. Doctor D bandages Yuki's eyes, while Yuki tells them whatever he knows - basically, that Chris is dead and the other two are in trouble.

Yuki is determined to leave with Aya to find the other two - with a pained smile, he says that he remembers the layout of the building. They head out.

In a building with bloodstained walls, Alison and Akagawa rest against a wall, among the bodies of comrades and enemies alike. Alison has started to weep for Chris, but Akagawa interrupts her by saying that it doesn't matter about those who are dead. Shocked, Alison grabs his sleeve and yells at him. When she breaks off, Akagawa merely gives her an inscrutable look, before reaching out to brush a tear away. He says that besides them, the others are less than worms. Stunned, Alison can only stare even as Akagawa pulls her into a hug.

Akagawa smiles as he says that there is no need for them to die for Orphan, and that Blue Eyes' will protect them from here, in exchange for Orphan. As he says that Chris was not in the plan, but there is nothing he can do now, Alison slaps him, realising his betrayal. She asks if he "...let everyone die, if he let Yuki get hurt instead, and if he let Aya -"

But Akagawa cuts her off, suddenly angry, saying that Aya is the one he hates the most. He holds her tighter, putting a hand on her breast, and says that he will do anything for her. Even as she cries at him to stop, he says that she belongs to him.
