chapter synopsis/scans: chapter six [jul '03] 雪の日に ( Yuki no hi ni - On a snowy day ) While Aya hands Yuki a bunch of old katanas which he plans to use and then abandon at their destination, we see shots of Akagawa pinning Alison by her wrists and tearing a pill free from its wrapping. The scene cuts to them as Akagawa, holding the pill on his tongue, kisses Alison. When he breaks off, he tells her that the pill was the "Orphan Drug", which will soon render her more compliant. Still in disbelief, Alison asks "So...all of us...were offered...? This...betrayal..." Akagawa silences her with another, violent, kiss, then tells her to hold her tongue - he asks her who betrayed his emotions first. He continues on about how all they need are each other, while she can only listen in shock. By then, Aya and Yuki reach their location. A fight with some Blue Eyes' members ensues, which Aya wins, gaining a gun in the process but left with only two katanas. At that point, Yuki has removed the bandage over his eyes, saying that the bleeding has stopped, though it is still a little hard to see. A few moments later, Yuki says that Aya is strong, and speaks of how Akagawa named him Yuki because it was a "quiet and good" name, also saying that Japan was far from here, and peaceful. He then asks Aya if he came from such a country - Aya doesn't give a straight answer, thinking briefly of his ex-teammates while staring at the cracked blade of the katana. After a while, Aya says they should go. Yuki hesitates before saying he would protect Alison if he were as strong as Aya, to which Aya replies that he cannot take Yuki's place, but there is something he can become, which is probably the last thing Yuki would want - the strength to betray Alison's feelings. In that situation, he says, Yuki can call him. Yuki stares for a while before acknowledging that, and thanking Aya. A sudden sound, though, gets their attention. A Blue Eyes member has appeared by Akagawa and Alison. He tells him to bring Alison to see 'the boss'. Akagawa stands - Alison cries out 'No!' but is silenced by a slap. Akagawa holds her with one arm, and then Aya and Yuki reach the scene. Alison calls Yuki's name, Yuki responding by pulling out the kau sin ke that Akagawa had earlier entrusted to him and running towards Akagawa. Akagawa aims a gun at Yuki; Alison breaks free as he pulls the trigger, and she receives the three shots that were meant for Yuki. Yuki stares in shock as her body collapses against him, pushing him to the floor. Aya now attacks Akagawa while Yuki calls out Alison's name repeatedly in disbelief, starting to cry. There is a lull in the fighting while both catch their breath, Akagawa having collapsed to the floor. Akagawa begins talking about how Alison was stupid to not have followed him to paradise together. As he goes on, Yuki eventually interrupts him angrily. In reply, Akagawa draws his gun again, and stands. Aya asks him about the drug, and it seems as though that may be the reason for everything. Yuki, still crying, shouts that he will kill Akagawa. Aya calls his name sharply, silencing him, but then turns, and asks him to give him the command. Yuki, though hesitating for a moment, does so. A single tear runs down Akagawa's cheek; he keeps his gun raised as Aya raises his katana, but never fires. The scene ends with feathers and a splash of blood. Cut to a city street. It is still snowing. Two Blue Eyes members are heading away, a waiting car parked by the roadside, but Aya and Yuki come up behind and take out one of them. As Aya speaks, the remaining man snaps at someone in the car to open the door. The passenger does so - and it happens to be Mihirogi.
