chapter synopsis/scans: chapter nine As for the thinking "Justice" [oct '03] The instalment begins with two alternating scenes - a flashback of Aya in the car with Mihirogi and Chloe, and the present scene at the airport, where Aya has tinted glasses. In the car, Aya asks if they killed the policemen. Chloe says that their existence was worthless, which leads on to a brief exchange about the morality of killing. During the brief silence that follows after Aya's speech, Mihirogi joins in, and adds that Aya is similar to how she used to be. The scene returns to the present; the three are now seated in a very large heliocopter. Mihirogi proceeds to properly introduce herself and her background. We learn that she used to be secretary to Takatori Shuuichi, when he was still Persia. The current second-in-comand at the time was Nakatsugawa Kyousuke, CEO of the Bank of Japan. However, Nakatsugawa's ideals conflicted with Takatori Shuuichi's, so he eventually left; Mihirogi, whose ideals mirrored Nakatsugawa's, left as well. Nakatsugawa used Second Weiss ( Shion, Azami, Ayame and Rindou ) to further his intentions. Mihirogi then says that Aya should know very well what happened then. ( After leaving Kritiker, Nakatsugawa also went on to form his own killing corps, La Mort, and eventually died at the hands of Second Weiss. See the Dramatic Precious albums for info on Nakatsugawa Kyousuke. ) Mihirogi continues, saying that she left Japan and entered England's Krypton Brand. Then, glancing over at Aya, she says that her story can be slowly told over some wine, once Aya has joined the group. Unamused, Aya says that he still has no reason to decide to join. Mihirogi: But you followed - isn't it because you were interested? Aya: There is interest. But if I think that I don't need you, I won't join. That's what business is, isn't it? Mihirogi accepts that. The helicopter takes off; Aya brings up Shion. That line of conversation leads to Aya taking off his glasses, and asking them if they can say that they will never become that way - continuing to kill ( even when there is no reason to ). Both respond in the affirmative; Chloe makes a long-ish speech as a reply. Aya stares at him, then in an amusing chibi-ish panel, says that all Chloe is saying is that they'll never become like that, no matter what. ( Chibi!Chloe says it doesn't sound as beautiful while Chibi!Mihirogi snickers. ) Seriousness restored, Aya says that they seem very confident. Mihirogi says they are, for they have their own will, and asks if Aya will ever become that way. One hand gripping the hilt of his katana, Aya says he has decided never to do so, and speaks of crosses and how they are his responsibility to bear. He then adds that if they ever break their word and become common killers, he'll kill them without holding back. By now, they've landed at their destination, and Aya says that that's what him joining the team will be about, asking if they have the same resolution. Mihirogi says it's interesting, and she hopes so, as well as promising that they will do the same, saying something about the ideals with they operate by. Alighting from the helicoptor, Mihirogi says he can now decide whether he will live with them or not, while gesturing to the castle. They enter and make their way to a room where Michel and a man are waiting. Mihirogi greets him and they talk about the mission before turning to face Aya. Mihirogi is about to conduct introductions, but with some hostility, Aya asks if that is their boss, saying that he seems quite a grand person. Eventually, they get the introductions over and done with - the man is Richard Kripton, head of Krypton Brand and known as just KR, and Aya remains just Aya, and 'simply a god of death'. KR talks about wanting Aya as part of their organisation etc. Aya asks why, in a long speech, ending off by asking them what they fight for. KR closes his eyes, and replies that they fight to protect the weak, calling it justice. Aya grins bitterly, then laughs hard, saying that justice is a cliched ( I think - am unsure about this kanji ) word. But he recovers quickly, saying that it isn't bad. KR and Mihirogi talk more about their ideals, why they choose to fight etc. etc. - in the end, Mihirogi says that she feels as though the cross Aya bears is the same conviction that they have. With a slight smile, Aya says something to the effect that though it's not that satisfactory, he doesn't know if he looks forward to it more. Chloe finally speaks, and says it seems okay, and he'll fight by believing in that word ( justice ). He then challenges Aya, saying that it's to see his worth. Michel agrees, introducing himself. They end up deciding to square off in a team battle, with Aya being skeptical of Michel's ability at first. They walk outside, and Chloe is about to introduce Aya's battle partner - but said partner walks out from a doorway and does his own introduction. Expectedly, it's Ken, seeming quite cheerful about the whole situation. Aya, stunned, can only say "You..." Ken, still grinning, replies that it's been a while, and asks about Aya's stomach wound - but Chloe interrupts, saying that this can wait for later, and that for now, they'll display their skills.
