A girl, Shinjyou Kurumi, is being pursued down dark alleyways. The scene cuts to Weiss - or rather, Krypton Brand Side B - being briefed on their mission, which involves a sought-after drug known as Human Interleukin III. The members accept it, one by one. As we go back to Kurumi being chased, Krypton Brand appears, rescuing her and taking out the attackers. The mission ends with them standing by an unconscious Kurumi, wondering what to do with her.

#1 ヒト・インターロイキン I
( Hito Intaaroikin I - Human Interleukin I )

Kurumi wakes up to find herself in the Koneko, and meets its staff as well. Though some of them are slightly more eccentric, Kurumi finds herself beginning to trust them. While on the streets with Ken, another attack occurs - Free and Ken take care of it, while Kurumi flees back to the Koneko and passes out upon reaching it. When she next awakes she decides she has to leave. An overheard conversation between the members of Krypton Brand leads her to believe her trust was misplaced, and she leaves immediately. However, she falls into trouble on the way, and the only sign left for the Krypton Brand members is her dropped bag.

#2 ヒト・インターロイキン II
( Hito Intaaroikin II - Human Interleukin II )

With Yuki providing a communications link, Krypton Brand heads out. Michel breaks security while Free stands by, Chloe calls an owl to him and follows it with Aya and Ken, and fighting ensues. Meanwhile, Kurumi awakes to meet her parents and the person behind the whole thing - and finds that they are working together.

Free and Michel meet up with the other three. In another part of the building, Yuki, scythe raised, is about to kill one of the enemy - Aya reminds him over the comm link that he hasn't made a kill yet, and thus the scythe escapes being bloodied. He does, however, leave said enemy with the gift of a perhaps-deadly chemical and parting words along the lines of "With this, at the most you'll forget pain - which is good, isn't it?" Make of that what you will.

They all reach the room where Kurumi is and discover that the drug being sought resides in Kurumi's bloodstream, courtesy of her parents. The mastermind is killed; after tense angsting, so are Kurumi's parents. Kurumi weeps in the arms of Mihirogi, who has just arrived on the scene - once she calms down, Mihirogi offers her the choice of dying, or living as part of Krypton Brand. It is Aya who raises his katana to her throat and asks her, though not unkindly, to decide.

She makes her choice - and the chapter closes with a scene in the Koneko, with Kurumi settling in.

#3 追憶
( Tsuioku - Recollection )

This instalment opens with a scene of the Koneko. In the style of a voiceover, Mihirogi is on the phone, commenting on the group at large. She mentions Aya in particular, and the fact that both he and Ken used to be in Weiss, and then the scene cuts...

...to New York, a few months ago. The final scene of Glühen is currently playing out, with Aya leaning against the mailbox, bleeding. Three kids are running down the street, clutching bags of money and with armed policemen in pursuit; one of them falls behind, and it seems as though the game is up - he looks up as a policemen points a gun at him, and we now see that this is Yuki.

Then swiftly, someone is shielding Yuki, and we find out that Yuki had stopped just by Aya. Bloodstained and visibly in pain, Aya snaps at Yuki to escape. He reaches reflexively for his katana to fend off the police but finds, understandably enough, that it isn't there. He gives an almost resigned smile - and then a van pulls up sharply. Its occupants - Alison and Akagawa - rescue the two. Apparently Yuki is somehow connected to them.

Aya loses unconsciousness in the van. Cue a dream sequence featuring Aya's past, complete with "Koroshite yaru! Takatori!". There's a panel of Weiss in their Glühen outfits, and then someone whom I believe to be Kikyou shows up with a katana. Aya regains consciousness briefly, opening his eyes and murmuring Shion's and Kikyou's names, and then slips back into unconsciousness. The four members of Weiss, again, and then Sena, and then the memory of a little girl handing him a flower - see Glühen ep 13.

Aya awakes with a start in a safe house. He reacts with hostile suspicion towards Yuki and the two others, but listens as they introduce themselves. Alison hands him a pocketknife. Apparently the three of them are part of a group known as 'Orphan' (oufuan) who take care of the less fortunate children in New York. Their enemies are a group known as 'Blue Eyes' (buruuaizu) - it is implied that said group were the ones who tried to kill Aya, and that the pocketknife (which the three of them found on Aya?) belonged to that group.

Exposition follows and the instalment ends with them asking Aya for his name. Before he can respond, though, Alison discovers that members of Blue Eyes are coming to attack them.

#4 小さすぎる手のひら
( Chiisasugiru te no hira - Small Palms )

The attackers arrive, and the members of Orphan split up - Akagawa and Alison head off to hold them off, while Yuki is tasked with protecting the children. Aya joins the latter, though armed only with a pole.

Hyuu, one of the two Orphan members defending the premises with Alison, is shot and heavily wounded. Akagawa takes out the attackers arriving from the other direction while Alison leaves with the other two. As some children gather, Alison kisses the dying man gently on the cheek.

In another part of the compound, the Blue Eyes' members open fire on an empty room. It turns out that the room has been rigged, and an explosion is triggered. While Aya is discovering two dead bodies, Yuki meets up with Alison again, and Akagawa arrives on the scene just as Blue Eyes' members burst into the hallway and take Alison hostage. The tense standoff results in Yuki being in a dilemma over whether or not to attempt shooting the Blue Eyes' member - a dilemma shortly resolved by a simultaneous attack by Aya and Akagawa.

Alison snaps at them at first for being idiots, but then apologises and draws Yuki and Akagawa into a group hug. As she escorts the children back off, Aya and Akagawa converse about Alison and the circumstances surrounding Aya. Alison then returns with a sinister invitation card found by the dead bodies. A key Orphan member, Chris, is being held ransom.
